Record Store Day Kicks Ass!!!
Where were you on Saturday, known forever now as the day I could not find a Tom Waits 7 inch to save my life. Ok, I got started a little late, and decided to play fair and not call in any favors and let the chips fall where they may. That isn't exactly true, I did track down John Silva at Coachella to make damn sure he could get me a Beck/ Sonic Youth 7 inch cause that was impossible as well... hey mr. record freak, guess what, they did some in colored vinyl. Good Luck!!!
What a wonderful day of record shopping...the stores in LA were just popping with business, everyone talking about what a great day it was. I was texting ( I am so lame I know I should have been twitter man) with Howard in Nashville where he reported how big the buzz was at Grimey's, Eric at Criminal was on fire all day and seemed to have been the person I was most impressed with, running a store, posting You Tube footage and twittering, all while answering my lame ass questions about 7 inch singles.
Jerry checked in from Record Time in Detroit just as Omar Rodriguez Lopez was about to play live to celebrate the day and the release of "El Grupo Nuevo de..."
Amoeba was slammed with a line to check out as long as Xmas time and I actually had to wait for 2 customers to go through the new arrivals used bin at Freakbeat. Essentially everybody was happy, a great day of celebration.
Coolest thing of the day, Jack White manning the counter at the newly opened Third Man Records!!!
Too many titles too mention but it is so damn exciting to see how much passion there was for vinyl, especially the 7 inch singles.
Lips/Keys single was the first item to sell out everywhere, we are proud.
Wow, the Sub Pop singles are killer. Best packaging of the day for sure. Hey, best packaging for any day, different color wax, kind of a standard beautiful brown sleeve, with each having an inner sleeve touting Sub Pop singles... oh, a download card with each one too boot. Add in the Sub Pop singles Club they launched back in August and it makes me pretty damn jealous we have not done this yet.
Massive Kudos To Sub Pop!!!!!
